Warwick District Council’s Cabinet will now decide whether to move forward with the updated Draft Development Brief.

Following the conclusion of the public consultation on the future regeneration of the site of the Council’s HQ on Milverton Hill, Warwick District Council’s Cabinet will now decide whether to move forward with the updated draft development brief.

The public consultation which ran for ten weeks over the summer (26 July to 1 October) sought to gain views on the Council’s aspirations to bring the Riverside House site forward for development (in accordance with its provision in the Local Plan for housing) and the key design principles set out in the Brief.

The consultation included:

  • Sessions with town centre groups, including the Town Council, Clean Air Leamington, BID Leamington, Leamington Chamber of Commerce and members of the public, including nearby residents.
  • An online survey requesting feedback on key points of the Brief (also made available at The Royal Leamington Spa Town Hall and the Royal Pump Rooms)

Overall, the survey results demonstrate that 67% of the public support the development of the site. 20% of those completing the survey support the development plan in its current form, and a further 47% support the Brief with some amendments, many of which have been incorporated into the updated Brief.

The Leader of Warwick District Council, Councillor Andrew Day commented:

“The future of this important site required new thinking, I am therefore pleased that we have received very positive feedback from our online sessions and have had the opportunity to have a constructive dialogue with a number of key stakeholders.”

“On the back of the consultation officers have been able to update the Brief to take into account the key issues raised, such as further provision of affordable housing, the retention of trees and green spaces and connectivity to the town and river. I look forward to the discussion at Cabinet on the proposals.”

The updated Draft Development Brief will go to the Cabinet meeting on 4 November 2021 for a decision.
