Further training opportunities for young people from the local area are being offered through Warwick District Council’s flourishing Apprenticeship Scheme.
Since 2018 the Council has supported the employment of 24 apprentices in a variety of roles. Eight of the trainees have gone on to secure permanent positions and others are progressing towards degrees and career graded managerial roles.
Sam who joined the Council as a Business Administration Apprentice for the Building Control Team commented:
“Having initially joined the Council in an administrative role, I am now completing a degree to become a fully qualified Building Control Surveyor. I would highly recommend undertaking an apprenticeship with Warwick District Council. Your managers and colleagues provide you with the vital skills and attributes needed to achieve your full potential aiding progression within your chosen career.”
Rajan, who undertook a Business Administration Apprenticeship and is now a career graded Business Support Manager commented:
“I am extremely happy that I did my apprenticeship with WDC as it has allowed me to gain so many skills on the job and a qualification at the same time. It was great to be offered a full-time role when I finished and then be given the chance to undertake a degree level course as well. I really feel like a valued member of the team and now have the confidence and ambition to be the best that I can be.”
Kai who is now a Marketing Officer at the Royal Pump Rooms and Spa Centre added:
"I initially joined the Council as a Level 3 Events Administration Apprentice having always had an interest in working in the cultural or heritage sector. The flexible nature of the apprenticeship and my helpful and supportive co-workers allowed me to focus on the marketing aspect of the role, which is where my passions lie. Last month I successfully applied for a permanent role as a Marketing Officer within the same team!”
The Council is in the process of recruiting for six more apprenticeships in Arts Development, Estates Services, Building Control and Sports Administration as well as Project Management in ICT Services and Environment Operations, with the successful candidates being given the chance to gain job-specific skills whilst earning and gaining recognised qualifications. Two of these roles are currently being advertised on the Warwick District Council website where you can also sign up to receive regular updates on apprenticeship opportunities and other vacancies.
