Warwick District Council’s CCTV team has been commended by the Surveillance Camera Commissioner for accurately complying with the ‘Surveillance Camera Code of Practice’.
The certificate of compliance received by the Council assures the public that the 100+ cameras across Warwick district are being operated ethically and legitimately to an appropriate standard.
The Council’s CCTV scheme operates 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, monitoring the district to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and public disorder, making our streets safer for everyone. The team works closely with partners including Warwickshire Police and the Warwickshire Retail Crime Initiative to deliver a comprehensive public safety service.
The team also provide an effective emergency response, operating a number of emergency help points in addition to monitoring the river levels during bad weather, liaising with the Environment Agency as appropriate.
In addition to preventing and detecting crime, the team are also able to provide support for vulnerable people. In recent months several individuals have been seen requiring assistance and the team have been able to alert the appropriate authorities, monitoring their welfare until they are attended to.
Councillor Judy Falp, Portfolio Holder for Health & Community Protection, said: “I am so pleased to confirm that the Council has once again been commended for its high standards of CCTV operation, and my thanks go to the team who work round the clock to keep us all safe.
“This past year has been particularly challenging but they have continued to provide a first class service, especially recently as businesses have opened up and people have returned to our town centres.
“Our residents can rest easy knowing that we are there 24/7, monitoring the district to keep us all safe.”
