There were two appointments that couldn’t be missed during the final weeks of Councillor Martyn Ashford’s tenure as Chairman of Warwick District Council.

The first was to present a cheque for £10,000 to his chosen Chairman’s Charity, the British Heart Foundation. The donation was made possible thanks to the generosity of bereaved families kindly allowing the recycling of orthopaedic implants from Oakley Wood Crematorium through the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s Recycling of Metals Scheme.

Karen Robinson, Fundraising Manager for the British Heart Foundation commented;

“We are so grateful to Councillor Ashford for choosing the BHF as his chosen charity for the duration of his year as Chairman.

The devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic means that the BHF’s investment in new research has fallen by around £50 million this year. This research is entirely fuelled by the generous donations of the public, and that’s why we need their support now, more than ever.”

The second diary date was a visit to Racing Club Warwick to see for himself the new all-weather football pitch recently completed as part of an 18-month long project to upgrade the Warwick District Council owned venue.

Councillor Ashford commented;

“Having been down to the club before work started to meet the players and volunteers, it’s really rewarding to see this wonderful new pitch in action. I’m so glad to see signs that our community is returning to normality after a very difficult year.”
