We have continued to pull out all the stops to ensure that eligible local businesses can take advantage of the government grants available to support them through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since taking over the administration of the central government scheme on 3 April applications from 1683 local companies have been processed and payments totalling almost £22million sent out.
Coordinating, checking and processing such a huge volume of applications has been a mammoth task for the Council’s Finance and Business Support teams, who have worked over weekends and the Easter bank holidays to enable businesses to access the financial support they need as quickly as possible.
Now that the backlog of applications is complete, we are reaching out to more local companies to apply to the scheme;
Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Business & Environment, Councillor Alan Rhead commented;
“The Council is fully aware of the devastating effect that this ongoing national crisis is having on our local economy, in particular the large number of small businesses who have been forced to close or strictly limit their activities. Over the coming days we will be contacting businesses who have not yet applied for support and would strongly encourage others to come forward to find out what financial help is available. I would like to thank the Finance team who have worked diligently over the holiday period to ensure that this support has reached so many of our local businesses.”
