Warwick District Council's Lifeline team sponsor trek with new GPS technology
Warwick District Council’s Lifeline Services team is lending its support to two local residents who will be testing their latest Lifeline product from the summit of Kilimanjaro.
Mike Green from Leamington and Myton Hospice employee Rebecca Richards will be part of a group who will be making the challenging seven day Kilimanjaro trek to raise funds for the Myton Hospice. During their trip they will be both be testing out Ownfone's latest Footprint technology to see whether they are able to contact the Lifeline control room in Lillington at altitude thousands of miles away from home.
If trials are successful the Lifeline Services team is planning to add the new device to their lifesaving product range. Lifeline has around 5000 local customers who they can assist in their own homes 24/7 at a touch of a button via a lifeline unit which is activated by a special pendant or watch. The new wearable Footprint device with GPS location technology will give vulnerable people the reassurance of the Lifeline service when they are away from home.
Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for Housing Support, Councillor Peter Phillips commented:
“What better way to test out the very latest technology that our Lifeline Support team could have at their disposal to help some of the most vulnerable in our community to live independent lives! If it works on the summit of Kilimanjaro in will work anywhere, giving our residents and their families reassurance that help is at hand wherever they may be. I wish Mike, Rebecca and the rest of the team all the very best with their trip.”
