Warwick District Council’s budget for 2017/18 was approved at the Executive meeting held on Wednesday 8th February. The Executive also agreed to recommend an increase of 3.3% in the district council’s share of the council tax to Full Council on 22nd February.

Having been in a position to freeze council tax for a five year period, this will be the second year that the Warwick District Council element will be increased by a Band D equivalent of £5 per annum. The £156.86 charge will remain below the 2016/17 national average of £175. 

The council is continuing with its ambitious ‘Fit for the Future’ Programme started in 2011 in order to improve efficiency and make further savings while protecting mainstream services. Medium term savings include the outsourcing of the management of the leisure centres and the relocation to a smaller HQ. However going forward as government support declines, the council will need to find further savings of £830,000 by 2021/22.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Finance, Councillor Peter Whiting said: "I pay tribute to both officers and councillors in continuing to maintain and improve our service offering with only a moderate increase in council tax. Being in a stable position for 2017/18 means that we can continue to bring a high level of service to our customers and invest in projects which will benefit the community."

Both the 2017/18 budget and council tax decisions were approved by Full Council on Wednesday 22nd February.
