The Chairman and Deputy Leader were amongst the representatives from Warwick District Council who took part in Saturday’s Warwickshire Pride event at the Pump Room Gardens.
Carrying a newly created rainbow banner members of the Health and Safer Communities team were joined by Councillor Chris King on the annual pride march through Leamington town centre, before returning to the Gardens to be part of the festival of stalls, live music and entertainment.
During his speech at the event Council Chairman Councillor Rob Margrave said: “Like many organisations and businesses in our district, Warwick District Council has worked hard to ensure that our strategy and values are clear: that we will respect and value everyone, support each other and work objectively without bias or prejudice.
"In the coming months, as we strive to incorporate the policy set out in the King’s Speech, we will be bringing a new statement on hate crime forward for adoption by our authority, with the aim of making our district an even more inclusive place to live, work and visit.”
Warwickshire Pride was also an opportunity for the Council to focus on community safety, with a themed stand showcasing the work of the Community Wardens and sharing information on local initiatives on ‘going out and staying safe’ in Leamington. Visitors were also encouraged to complete a survey designed to help understand the thoughts, experiences and concerns of the LGBTQ+ community.
