Green-fingered residents, who wish to continue having their garden waste collected are reminded that they need to renew their subscription for the period from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
The annual charge for the fortnightly service for this year is £40 for each garden waste bin permit, the rise in cost being due to the previous subscription just covering the eight month period from 1 August 2022 to 31 March 2023.
Residents who have signed up for reminders, via the waste collection app will have already received a message to remind them to renew their subscription, however due to GDPR regulations, the District Council has been unable to contact other service subscribers.
Garden waste permits can be renewed online. Customers are advised that there is currently a 10-day lead in time between purchase and the delivery of the permit.
Items that can go in the green bin include: grass cuttings, shrub and hedge cuttings, plants, flowers, leaves and prunings, bedding from non-meat eating pets and twigs, branches, small logs (max 10cm diameter).
Subscriptions are open all year, but the cost will remain at £40 with no pro-rata rate available. Only green bins displaying the correct permit will be emptied.
Residents who choose not to take part in the scheme have the choice of home composting or taking their garden waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. In addition Warwickshire County Council offer discounted home composting bins.
Garden waste collected from households in the District is taken to an In-Vessel Composter (IVC) near Southam. IVCs treat the material and ensure that composting takes place in an enclosed environment, with accurate temperature control and monitoring.
The material is turned into compost to be used as a soil conditioner in as little as two weeks, compared to three weeks for traditional outdoor composting.
