Council tax and Ukrainian Guests

If you are accepted to take in a guest from Ukraine under the Homes for Ukraine scheme this will not affect the following discounts or some exemptions you are currently receiving for council tax:

  • Single person discount will not be affected
  • Some exemption classes are also not affected - please contact us for more information. 

We may ask you to send over proof that you have a qualifying person under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. 

If you are also claiming benefits you must contact the benefits team who will advise separately as to any affect there may be on benefits benefits@warwickdc.gov.uk

Getting a discount if you're here under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme and you are in your own accomodation.

You will be entitled to a discount on your council tax if you are living in your own accomodation and not in your sponsors home if:

  • You are a Ukrainian national
  • In the UK under the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme

If all adults (over the age of 18)  in the household meet the above criteria you will be awarded a 50% discount on your council tax. 

This help with council tax only applies to Ukrainian nationals who have received a visa under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. It does not apply to other schemes such as The Ukraine Family Scheme or The Ukraine Extension Scheme. 

In order to apply for this discount please send us a copy of your visa and we will check to ensure you are entitled to the discount.
