The active travel challenge Choose How You Move in Warwick District ended 30 November 2024.

Since launching in January 2021, the challenge has enabled residents and commuters to earn rewards (known as ‘BetterPoints’) for recording their active and sustainable travel. They could then convert these points into vouchers that can be spent on the high street, or donated to charity.

This has allowed us to incentivise and encourage active travel as an alternate means of travelling to or within the District.

A report was presented to Cabinet on 8 February 2024 to seek approval to extend the current contract with BetterPoints for a further 6 months through to November 2024.

A decision at Leader and Portfolio Holder level was made in October 2024 to not to pursue a further contract involving a sustainable travel incentive initiative, such as BetterPoints. A recommendation that was approved in February was that a further report needs to be brought to Cabinet to consider the most effective means to utilise spending on Active Travel, which the Climate Change team will now undertake.

Users will still be able to access the BetterPoints app and track their journeys but will only be able to earn BetterPoints through the national prize draws, rather than locally tailored and funded incentives. The BetterPoints that users have earned do not expire and can continue to be spent after 30 November 2024. Vouchers from local businesses remain valid through the app until 6 January 2025.
