Pollution of rivers, streams and groundwater is dealt with by the Environment Agency.

Small watercourses and ditches

Councils have some powers to deal with pollution of small watercourses and ditches.

Drinking water and swimming pools

The Environmental Health Department at the council carries out sampling of private drinking water and swimming pools.
