Nagar Kirtan is a traditional Sikh custom involving the processional singing of holy hymns throughout the community.
There will be a Nagar Kirtan Procession around the Gurdwara Sahib's neighbourhood on Sunday 6 October, between 11am - 3pm.
Nagar Kirtan is a Sikh custom involving the processional singing of holy hymns throughout a community. The Nagar Kirtan is led by 5 saffron-robed Sikhs called Panj Pyare, or beloved ones dressed in traditional attire who are followed by the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy Sikh scripture, which is placed on the float with others playing drums and hymns to announce the procession as it moves through the streets.
The procession starts from the Gurdwara Sahib courtyard and will leave at 11am down to Kingsway, proceed on to Tachbrook Road, onto Queensway and then ending at the Gurdwara Sahib.
Road closures
A rolling road closure will be in place from 11am to 3pm as the procession moves along the following roads:
- Kingsway
- Tachbrook Road
- Queensway
