Temporary employment with electoral services
Our next scheduled elections will be the County Council Elections in May 2025. However, we will begin the process of allocating staff to their roles in December of 2024.
If you wish to be considered for a post at these elections, we advise that you submit your application in advance of this date.
We are looking for people with a good general level of education and general administration skills. No previous electoral experience is needed for our entry level roles, as full training will be given.
The jobs that we are offering include
- Count Assistant
- Count Supervisor - applicants must have worked as a Verification/Count Assistant on two previous occasions before applying for this role
- Electoral Services Registration Canvasser
- Poll Clerk
- Postal Vote Opener
- Presiding Officer - applicants must have worked as a Poll Clerk on two previous occasions before applying for this role
Personal requirements
To work at our elections, you must be:
- Be 18, or older
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Have a good level of general education
- Flexible and willing to travel –Count venue to be confirmed. Polling Stations are located across the whole district and whilst we use a preference system, you will need to have a flexible approach when allocated.
You cannot work for elections if you have campaigned on behalf of a candidate or party, nominated a candidate, or have a personal relationship with an elected representative or candidate. Please contact us if you are unsure whether this applies to you.
Right to Work in the UK
Once you have completed your application form, you will be invited to attend our offices to undertake your Right To Work in the UK check. This takes just five minutes, and you will be asked to present one of the following:
- A Passport – You can use expired passports, as long as the image remains a good likeness.
- A full birth certificate issued in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland accompanied by an official document giving the applicant's permanent National Insurance Number.
- A residence permit, registration certificate or document certifying or indicating permanent residence.
